University of Maryland names CSX Corp. President Michael J. Ward logistics 'person of the year'.

Michael J. Ward, a 25-year veteran railroad executive who became president of CSX Corp. this July, is the University of Maryland's "person of the year" in logistics.

Ward, who began his railroad career in 1977 as a research analyst for CSX predecessor Chessie System Railway in Baltimore, is credited with managing the turnaround at CSX Transportation, the company's railroad unit, since becoming president of that operation in December 2000. He also has served the company as executive vice president of operations, manager of Conrail merger planning, head of the railroad's coal business unit and chief financial officer.
