Prognostic information from the Mayo model of primary biliary cirrhosis is still valid, but a newer, yet-to-be-validated model may account for more of the observed variation in mortality, reported Dr. Martin Prince of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (England) and his colleagues.
Following diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis from 1987 to 1994 in northeast England, 417 of 765 patients with the disease died during a median follow-up of 7 years; median survival was 9 years. ...
