A recently identified paramyxovirus appears to be associated with community-acquired acute respiratory tract infections.

Researchers studied metapneumovirus in an attempt to determine the role of this virus in patients with influenzalike illnesses who test negative for influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), said Dr. Joanne Stockton of the Central Public Health Laboratory, London, and her colleagues.
