Need a 6x6 heavy-duty truck? Could be time to hit the auction.
The U.S. government funnels surplus goods-warehouses full of everything from treadmills to used drill bits (and 6x6 trucks)-to Government Liquidation LLC, an independent company. Government Liquidation auctions the goods with ultimate selling prices often falling below retail value.
The value potential holds true with the company's surplus vehicle sales division, which averages 33 car and 160 light/heavy-duty truck sales per month. Mind you, we're talking mostly about worn-out Big Three sedans and camouflage-hued soldier-haulers, not repossessed Bimmers and Escalades from a drug czar's garage like those you might find at a police auction.
The auction takes place online at www.govliquidation.com (enter the likes of ``Ford,'' ``Chevrolet,'' ``Jeep 6x6'' or simply ``vehicle'' into the search engine for listings). Auctions start with a $35 bid. One auction, a closed-door type, takes place every other month offering heavier military-use vehicles such as two-and-a-half ton trucks, selling only to security-cleared citizens (foreign nationals need not attend, but if you've got a clean record and legitimate purposes, you can score a pretty big truck).
