New York State Governor George Pataki has announced a $6.15 million grant toward the construction of a Bronx Borough Center Library/Latino and Puerto Rican Cultural Center, to be part of the New York Public Library (NYPL). system. The facility, expected to serve one million residents a year, will provide 55,000-75,000 square feet of space, more than double the size of the area's 27,000 square foot Fordham Library. Construction should begin next year. NYPL intends to make this new cultural center the most prominent library-based facility in the country to focus on the diversity of our nation's Latino and Puerto Rican communities.
