Sophia Gutierrez walked out of an Albuquerque hospital, quietly disobeying an honor system imposed by Albuquerque police, a detective said.

Gutierrez, 25, was not charged with a violent crime Tuesday night and needed to see a doctor before being booked in the City-County Jail, Detective Tim Fassler said.

So officers, who did not have time to wait with Gutierrez for hours, told her to call them back when her examination at Sandia Health System was completed, he said.
