The incidence of severe, invasive group A streptococcal disease did not increase during the 1990s, surveillance of five regional areas in the United States suggests.
The incidence was stable between 1996 and 1999 in Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, the San Francisco Bay area, and Portland, Ore., and in all of Connecticut, reported Dr. Katherine L. O'Brien of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, and her colleagues.
