2002 NOV 21 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Uterine artery embolization (UAE), a relatively new surgical procedure for the treatment of uterine fibroids, is the subject of several articles, case reports, and an editorial in the November 2002 issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Early reports suggest the procedure may have good short-term outcomes, but large randomized trials on the long-term outcomes for this and other fibroid treatments should be a public health priority, say researchers and commentators.
Fibroids are benign tumors that can cause pain, bleeding or infertility problems, and affect 20-40% of reproductive-age women.
