2002 NOV 13 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Epimmune, Inc., (EPMN), a biotechnology company focused on the development of pharmaceutical products using multiple, specific epitopes to activate the body's immune system, announced that it has been awarded a contract from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), to conduct research and development aimed at developing a novel malaria vaccine.
The award is part of the NIAID's Millennium Vaccine Initiative that solicits state-of-the-art vaccine technology from the private sector to accelerate the development of effective vaccines for malaria and tuberculosis. The program is composed of a phase A feasibility study and an option for a phase B development program for a total potential value of $3.5 million over 5 years. Epimmune will work with investigators at the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) on the program.
