Sergeant named liaison for new jail.(Weekend)

The Albuquerque Police Department has created a new position in hopes of making booking more efficient at the new West Side jail.
Deputy Chief Ray Schultz said newly promoted Sgt. Ronnie Watkins will spend much of his time helping in the transition to the new Metropolitan Detention Center on the West Mesa, assisting officers during the booking process.
The jail is scheduled to move its operations later this year.
When a suspect arrives at the jail to be booked, Watkins will serve as a troubleshooter, Chief Gilbert G. Gallegos said.
