Some vaccines - particularly new types of peptide and recombinant virus vaccines that present only one or a few epitopes - may combine with other factors to cause and not prevent disease, a Swiss research team warns.
As these types of vaccine are currently being explored in the search for an HIV vaccine, the warning is especially relevant to AIDS research.
