Genentech Inc., South San Francisco, California, announced that it has no current plans to continue its clinical trials of CD4-IgG as a stand-alone therapy for HIV-infected adults, and it will concentrate the clinical research program for CD4-IgG, under contract from Genentech Clinical Partners IV (GCP IV), on studies aimed at preventing the spread of disease from HIV-infected pregnant women to their fetuses.

Symptomatic HIV-positive patients who received CD4-based therapy in Phase I studies conducted to date have not shown consistent clinical improvements.
