Virtual Reality

It was nearly six o'clock in the evening, and the Japanese fellow sitting next to me in Kresge Auditorium was fast asleep. We were helping to celebrate the fifth birthday of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's dazzling research center, the Media Laboratory, whose pioneering work is supposed to change fundamentally the way we human beings communicate. The scientists seemed to have already succeeded, for never had I seen a person absorb information this way--perhaps it was an experiment in Somnambulant Data Retention.
