Viagene Inc. announced that Robert T. Abbott has been named president and chief executive officer.

Abbott was formerly president and chief executive officer of NeoRx Corp., a Seattle-based biotechnology company involved in the development of monoclonal antibody-based imaging and therapeutic products.

"Bob has significant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry," said David F. Hale, chairman of Viagene. "His proven ability to raise the capital necessary to build a biopharmaceutical company will be very important to the continued successful development of Viagene's gene transfer technology.
