HEB insurer wins $25 million suit against primary insurance carrier

A three-year legal squabble between two of San Antonio-based HEB Grocery Co.'s insurance carriers recently culminated in a $25 million judgment, setting a potential precedent in Texas law.

"This was the first jury trial in Texas where an excess insurance carrier sued a primary carrier over the handling of a claim," says Phil Watkins, name partner at the local law firm of Watkins & Brock and attorney for plaintiff Republic Insurance Co. of Dallas.
