The world is still not well enough prepared to cope with a bioterrorist attack, despite the efforts of some nations to plan for such an event, according to the UK representatives at the World Medical Association's annual meeting in Washington, DC, last week.

David Carter, former chief medical officer for Scotland and one of the BMA's delegates to the assembly, warned that the world was ill prepared for a bioterrorist attack and that the public health capacity in all countries must be strengthened and fully maintained.
