Diabetes center to test Japanese drug

A Japanese pharmaceutical company's race to develop a drug to counter the effects of diabetes is meaning increased business for a San Antonio firm which has been contracted to test the drug.

The Diabetes and Glandular Disease Research Center which, despite its small staff, is one of the largest firms in the nation to specialize in studying the disease, has won a contract from the Japanese company to conduct the majority of the testing of the drug which, if approved by the U.S. government, could net the manufacturer as much as $1 billion in annual sales.
