Special education teacher gets STAR for innovative projects, reaching goals.

Kathy Lewis, a special education teacher at Belle Hall Elementary School, has touched the lives of so many students that she received a "Shining STAR Award" at the annual STAR Awards.

Lewis received multiple nominations from families who commended her for the innovative projects she does with students, her acceptance of students and desire to make their school experience enjoyable, and her ability to instill confidence in her students and help them set and reach goals.

"It's very humbling," she said of the award, noting that she tries to do what she thinks is right and what she should do for her students.
