2002 OCT 17 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Elbit Medical Imaging, Ltd., (EMITF) announced that InSightec - Image Guided Treatment, Ltd., a company in which EMI indirectly holds a 61.3% interest (on a fully diluted basis) and GE Medical Systems holds 16.8% interest, has received approval from the Israeli Ministry of Health for the commercial use of its ExAblate 2000 system in treatments of uterine fibroids.
ExAblate 2000 is based on breakthrough technology that replaces the surgical knife in many applications, with a noninvasive treatment with minimal side effects. The revolutionary system combines high-intensity focused ultrasound and MRI imaging to achieve accurate destruction of tumors in a completely noninvasive manner and under real-time imaging control. The technology may be applied in a wide range of treatments including breast, prostate, liver, and brain cancer.
