Lighting up while eating out might soon be a thing of the past.

Albuquerque City Councilor Michael Cadigan is to introduce a bill tonight that would prohibit smoking in all public places throughout Albuquerque.

The bill would amend Albuquerque's 1989 Clean Indoor Air Ordinance, which created smoking and nonsmoking sections in restaurants. Cadigan wants to remove the exemptions for restaurants, bars and bowling alleys, making them smoke-free.

Cadigan and representatives of several anti-tobacco organizations pushed the bill at a news conference Sunday.
