2002 OCT 2 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Cangene announces that it has been awarded a contract by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop and supply a vaccinia immune globulin (VIg) for use in treating and preventing severe reactions that may be brought on by the administration of the smallpox vaccine.

The contract is for a 5-year period to supply a maximum of 100,000 doses of VIG.
