A non-profit group has resurrected suspicions that the Center for Science in the Public Interest is attacking the safety of Quorn Foods' meat substitute products as part of a secret deal with one of Quorn's top rivals.
In a Sept. 9 news release, the Bellevue, Washington-based Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise accused CSPI of "disparaging Quorn veggie burgers while touting Gardenburger veggie burgers" on its website. CDFE bills itself as a non-partisan group "Tracking threats to free markets, property rights and limited government."
CDFE's claim centers around questions that other parties have raised since CSPI's campaign began--namely, suspicions that the consumer group has secret ties to Portland, Oregon-based Gardenburger and that the two parties orchestrated an attack on Quorn to boost Gardenburger's flagging sales.…
