Belgian investment holding company Cie. Nationale ?ortefeuille said Monday, Sept. 23, it has purchased 11.85% of local restaurant operator and sports retailer GIB SA for [Euro]140.7 million ($138.9 million) total, potentially scuppering plans by another Belgian holding company, Ackermans & Van Haaren NV, to acquire all of GIB.

CNP, which declined to elaborate on its plans beyond a one-sentence press statement, said it had purchased 1.38 million shares from U.S. financier Guy Wyser-Pratte and 1.89 million shares from Franklin Mutual Advisors at a price of [Euro]43 per share.
