``Borrowing'' car designs from the other guy? Hell, folks, it's been going on for years. Four cars to bolster the point.
* Toyota MR2 SPYDER
Price: $26,095
Engine: 1.8-liter I4, 138 hp, 125 lb-ft
Curb weight: 2215 lbs
Drivetrain: rwd, five-speed sequential manual
Here we have nothing short of a bitmap pixelated (read: squared off) Porsche Boxster, like an escapee from an early Nintendo game. It might look downright strange to some, but the MR2 is simply a car to have fun in-if you take it too seriously the noise, cramped cockpit and zero storage space could turn you off. No, better to rev the wee out of the little four, flog the sequential 'box and enjoy the lightweight, go-kart handling. That sequential gearbox is arguably one of the best in the business: Keep the revs near the 5000-rpm mark and the shifts are quick and precise. As digitized simulations go, it ain't bad.
