2002 SEP 18 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Five mothers have formed the "Moms on Meningitis" public awareness campaign to warn other parents about the dangers of college meningococcal meningitis - a potentially fatal disease for which some college students are at increased risk.
These mothers, whose college-age children have suffered or died from meningococcal meningitis, have joined together to urge parents to consider vaccination for their college-age children.
The federal government's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that college students and parents learn about meningococcal meningitis and the benefits of vaccination.
These mothers, located throughout the U.S., have partnered with the Meningitis Foundation of America (MFA) to establish the national awareness initiative, called "Moms on Meningitis," or M.O.M.s.
