Center's construction plans set

The Gulf Coast city of South Padre Island is building a new, $10 million convention center. Construction on the 70,000-square-foot structure will begin in early November, and it will take about a year to complete, according to John Chachere, senior construction manager at Century Development Corp. in Houston. Century Development is the project's general contractor.
