One Alamo Center no longer contender for new library site

The owners of the One Alamo Center have dropped out of consideration as a possible site for the city's new main library, officials said.

Officials of Principal Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Des Moines, Iowa, the building's owners, have decided to market the structure for office space, rather than as the site for a new library.

Although they will examine the city's request for proposal (rfP), expected to be issued this week, a spokesman for the building's owners said they are trying to attract more tenants and emphasize the property as an office building. The 168,717-square-foot office building is located at 106 S. St. Mary's St.
