We love all those cars, first and foremost, so shiny and so slick (except the Preservation cars, which are slick in their own way but not shiny, not yet anyway). We love talking to the owners of the cars, who love them more than we do, and who are happy to speak at length about them and share their wonder with people, finally, who understand. We love poking our heads inside and imagining what it would be like to drive the things, to advance the spark with the separate little arm on the steering wheel, to reach outside and grab the brake, to make those skinny little tires squeal.
We love the diversity of marques parked on the lawn. We love that there hasn't been a year yet that we haven't learned volumes about cars we didn't know or understand. And that we can take in chunks of knowledge accumulated over years of work by car owners, restorers and class organizers and by simply reading the program and talking to the judges (after they're done judging).
We love that the event is slowly accepting new ideas: hot rods, unrestored (Preservation) cars, bare ...
