The Karran Group bought a folder-gluer to ease the strain on hand-working. Now it wants another, says John Davies
In order to relieve the pressure on its hand-working department, the Karran Group decided to seek out a folder-gluing machine at Ipex.
It eventually opted for Friedheim International's FormaFold - the first machine to be manufactured by the finishing specialist, developed for pockets, wallets, folders and covers.
Karran Group bindery manager Keith Brown (pictured) says that he looked at the spectrum of folder-gluer manufacturers - from the smaller unit-based machines up to the larger Bobsts. However, the firm went for a reconditioned FormaFold, after being offered a very good deal by Friedheim.
Brown says: 'We were after something fairly simple that could fold and glue CD wallets. We looked at Fidea's equipment as well as Moll's. We also looked at the larger Bobst machines. So far we have been very impressed with it - it's very well built and does a good job.'
He says that not only did the FormaFold fit the bill, but the fact that the Karran Group, an MBO house, has a good relationship with Friedheim was also a factor. 'Their knowledge of finishing equipment is really excellent.
They are dedicated to finishing. They just know their stuff,' he says.
