2002 SEP 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The main reason women enter addiction treatment is recognizing they cannot stop using alcohol and drugs on their own, according to a survey of 146 women in recovery from addiction, female counselors, and female therapists in recovery.
The survey was conducted at the "Women Healing" conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, presented by the Betty Ford Center, Caron Foundation and Hazelden Foundation, national leaders in addiction treatment.
Women attending the conference were asked to identify the three top reasons they entered addiction treatment. More than half (53%) said, "I was unable to stop using alcohol and/or drugs on my own." One third (33%) of the women said people close to them convinced them to go into treatment.
