Stay home and go to community college and you can have a new car. When the new-for-2002 Civic was launched there was plenty of blathering about how Honda had dumbed down the car, moving away from double wishbones in front, replacing them with struts. Mostly this came from young West Coast hot rodders. They needn't have worried: This is a bigger Civic for sure, but handling compromises? Not really. The 1.7-liter engine provides some pull (there's actually some torque now), the five-speed manual is sweet, the steering pretty much laser-like. And while subsidizing college tuition by delivering pizzas, you'll appreciate the 32 mpg on the city cycle.
