2002 SEP 5 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Agile Therapeutics, Inc., announced that it is initiating a new phase II clinical trial of its 7-day transdermal combination contraceptive patch.
The patch contains levonorgestrel (LNG) and ethinyl estradiol (EE), one of the most commonly prescribed oral contraceptive drug regimens. The trial will determine whether sufficient levels of hormones are delivered for contraception.
The trial is expected to be completed in about 9 months. The trial will be conducted at 6 sites in the United States and one site in Australia.
The Agile Therapeutics patch will compete with the recently introduced Johnson & Johnson Ortho EVRA patch.
"The goal of this phase II trial is to assess the safety profile and the contraceptive effects of multiple formulations when administered by these treatment regimens," said Tom Stagnaro, president and chief executive officer. Stagnaro noted that Agile has conducted a number of clinical trials of the 7-day contraceptive patch, with more than 200 women worldwide participating to date.
