* When Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake broke up, there were rumors that they were in a dispute over who would get to keep the $3 million Beverly Hills mansion they supposedly shared. Adding to the controversy was the fact that it was unclear to the public who wanted to split in the first place. So we asked Cosmo readers, when it's obvious who the heartbroken one is, does that person deserve special treatment, whether in the form of sympathy or material possessions?

YES: the dumpee is deserving

WOMEN 22%

MEN 25%

"The dumpee definitely deserves more sympathy and more material possessions. He or she carries a heavier emotional burden and should at least get something good out of it."--Mariana, 25

"Since dumpers have more time to think about the breakup, they are apt to deal with it better. Dumpees deserve more sympathy, because for them, the breakup usually comes out of left field."--Ashley, 19

"The dumpee should get all shared material possessions. It's only common courtesy on the dumper's part. Plus, he deserves to feel the pang of loss too, even if it's just in a materialistic sense. It sounds shallow, but whatever it takes for the dumpee to get over him--go for it, girl."--Kristen, 25
