2002 AUG 28 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- MedImmune, Inc., (MEDI) announced that total revenues for the first 6 months of 2002 increased 41% to $393 million from $279 million in the first 6 months of 2001.
Product sales grew 43% during the 2002 6-month period, primarily due to continuing strong sales of Synagis, which rose 38% to $326 million ($314 million in the U.S.) from $236 million ($220 million in the U.S.) in the first half of 2001.
Synagis is the company's flagship product used to prevent respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in high- risk infants. RSV is most commonly active in the Northern Hemisphere from late September to early May.
MedImmune's revenues for the 2002 second quarter increased 91% to $64 million from $33 million in the second quarter of 2001. Driving the revenue growth for the 2002 quarter were increases in sales of Synagis to $32 million ($27 million in the U.S.) and Ethyol to $17 million ($16 million in the U.S.). In the 2001 second quarter, Synagis sales totaled $15 million ($8 million in the U.S.), while Ethyol contributed $3 million ($2 million in the U.S.).
