Conrail Plans Port Connections

Auto-Marine Terminal at New York/New Jersey and South Philadelphia intermodal transfer facility in the works.

At the same time Conrail is planning improvements at the ports of New York and Philadelphia, the company is maneuvering to block a competitor's plan to bring business to the ports.

Officials of the Port of New York & New Jersey and the Consolidated Rail Corp. hope to build a link to the Northeast Auto-Marine Terminal. The rail spur would help New York compete with the Port of Baltimore, its largest competitor for auto imports on the North Atlantic Coast.
