GM is building specialty cars in-house to develop performance engineers. Honda puts its gearheads on racing programs. Which is the way to go?
GM will fiddle with in-house specialty cars until it hits a period when: a) it's not politically correct; b) the CEO is replaced; c) the CEO's wife disagrees; d) the assigned bean counter hiccups. I hate to say it, but Honda has the better approach. GM should leave the performance tuning to outside affiliates.

In the end, product in the showroom sells, so I'd put my money on GM's plan to develop product while training engineers against Honda's race program approach. Building a better product for the enthusiast customer now is key. GM and arguably Honda do not have the luxury of hoping their engineers will be around 10 years from now, working in the same company for life.
