Uncle Olaf is spinning in his grave-at 6000 rpm. Or he will be early next year when Volvo introduces a version of its S60 sedan meant to compete with performance icons like the BMW M3 and Audi S4. Ja, you heard dat right. The new Volvo S60 R offers 300 hp, Servotronic steering, beefy Brembo brakes, Haldex all-wheel drive and a high-speed adaptive suspension.
The S60 R is powered by a unique 2.5-liter turbocharged inline five-cylinder offering 300 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at just 2100 rpm. Volvo calls its estimated 0-to-60-mph time of less than 5.5 seconds ``conservative,'' and hints the car could even get into the high fours. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
