Baby boomer parents with not-so-fond memories of near-tortuous visits to the dermatologists of yore may view teen acne as something to simply be endured, a rite of passage.
But local physicians say that with the treatments commonly available today, the absence (or near-absence) of acne is one thing that can make the teen years a little easier.
Dr. Douglas Thomas, who practices adult and pediatric dermatology with Las Vegas Skin & Cancer Clinics Ltd., said he can offer one bit of consolation to acne-plagued teens:
"If you stick with me, I can pretty much assure you we'll make your acne go away."
And that's important to a lot of teens, said Dr. Ann Childress, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist who's in private practice and on staff at the University Medical Center.
