2002 AUG 14 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Medical care providers should consider pertussis as a cause of new cough illness in people of all ages, according to a report issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the July 19, 2002, issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

In 2000, 17 pertussis (whooping cough) deaths were reported in the United States. All deaths occurred in U.S.-born infants who became sick before 4 months of age.
