Targeting GM's Epsilon platform
I can see why you titled the July 22 article about the Saab 9-3 ``Target Practice.'' Looking at the picture of the center of the dash, I see about 45 buttons. It'll take some target practice to push the right one of those as you hustle down the road.

Your photos show the 2003 Saab 9-3 has sporty, yet elegant lines that can rival the designs of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. I was surprised to see you call it mainstream and dull. On the next page, in your article, ``Structurally Sound,'' you show a half oval slapped on top of a box (the Opel Vectra GTS) and call it ``a nice-looking car.'' Maybe I'm getting conservative in my old age (32), but the upcoming Saab 9-3 provides much more aesthetic justice to the Epsilon platform.

Judging Al Jr.
Regarding Dutch Mandel's July 29 column on Al Unser Jr.: Why kick a man when he's down? Your demand that he hangs up his helmet is ridiculous. What does anyone gain by that?
