Moncks Corner natives provide school supplies.

Four years ago, while living in Atlanta, Moncks Corner natives Lisa Grantham and Deatrice Chisolm-Byrd founded a nonprofit organization to provide children from low-income families with school supplies.

The best friends founded Dhe Lhe AchieVement with little money and little sponsorship, but had the hope that the idea would catch on.

"We wanted to let them know that you don't have to have a lot of money to do something positive within your community," Grant-ham said.

This year's event will be held Saturday at Wall Street Park, near Berkeley Middle School.
