Porschephiles have heard these rumblings before, but now the jungle drums are very loud: Porsche plans to add a 180-mph coupe-conceived along the lines of its discontinued 928-that will share major pieces (such as a front-mounted V8 engine) with the Cayenne sport/utility vehicle.
AutoWeek has learned plans for the 928 successor have been under way at Porsche's Stuttgart technical center since January. This model likely will be built alongside the Cayenne and Carrera GT supercar at Porsche's Leipzig plant. Look for the new car by late 2007.
Brera of bad news
We're sad to write that the stunning Alfa Romeo Brera concept (AW, July 29) won't make production after all.
Daniele Bandiera, head of Alfa Romeo, said the company has decided not to build a version of the Italdesign-Giugiaro concept that was named AutoWeek's Best in Show after it debuted last spring in Geneva.
