California's new law aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions is essentially a way of increasing Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE. See, the thing about reducing CO2 at the tailpipe is that pretty much the only way to do it is to burn less gas.

While that usually means using smaller engines, which usually have to go in smaller cars, trucks and sport/utility vehicles, it could also mean using smaller engines coupled with hybrid electric drivetrains in bigger pickups and SUVs.
