Chances are you don't need NOAA (you know, the weather guys) to tell you that much of the country is in drought. You didn't need to wash the car, did you?
* Hyundai SANTA FE
Price: $18,344
Engine: 2.4-liter I4, 149 hp, 156 lb-ft
Curb weight: 3494 lbs
Drivetrain: fwd, five-speed manual
The Santa Fe mini-ute, Hyundai's Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 fighter, might be the vehicle to take when hoses turn to a dribble, when lawns get that lovely midsummer brown patina and the roads become oh-so nice and dusty. A layer of road crud over the Santa Fe's handsome skin might give it the tough, brutish demeanor it lacks in clean form, especially given our test vehicle's front-drive layout (all-wheel drive is available), lacking engine output (although a V6 is optional) and its rubbery, less-than inspiring five-speed manual transmission. In other words, it may not perform like those bigger testosterone-laden macho-utes out there, but it might look like it does.
