Dutch telecom company Royal KPN NV agreed Tuesday, July 30, to buy the Dutch assets of bankrupt KPNQwest NV for an undisclosed amount, with its eye on additional assets in Belgium, Germany and the U.K.
Royal KPN spokesman Marinus Potman confirmed that the company paid about [Euro]2 million ($1.96 million) for KPN's fiber-optic network in the Netherlands and an operating center in The Hague, but declined specifics.
Closing is expected within a few weeks, he said. Potman also said Royal KPN was negotiating to purchase additional parts of KPNQwest's fiber-optic networks in Germany, Belgium and the U.K.
