ATMs bring banking to East Austin

Bank One, Texas-Austin has won the race to be the first to provide some form of banking services in East Austin, an area now devoid of any banking presence.

Bank One's move was not specifically designed to serve East Austin, but that was the by-product of a deal recently struck with the Diamond Shamrock convenience store chain to put automated teller machines (ATMs) in hundreds of stores around the state.

Beginning in mid-October, 36 new ATMs will be installed in Austin's Diamond Shamrock locations. Three of those machines will be located in minority sections of East Austin.
