2002 AUG 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Digene Corporation (DIGE) announced that the European Parliament's Medical Service will now reimburse for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing in annual medical examinations for all female Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and their staff in Brussels. The European Parliament Medical Service serves over 3,500 people, including 626 MEPs.
MEP Ria Oomen-Ruijten of The Netherlands praised the move in a press release issued by European Women for HPV Testing, a women's health advocacy group, stating, "We are delighted with this decision, founded as it is on recognition that the latest scientific data prove the greater effectiveness of HPV testing in the fight against cervical cancer. We therefore urge the European Commission to include HPV testing in its upcoming Recommendation on Cancer Screening, because we believe that all European women, and not just those of us who work in the European Parliament, have the right to the best medical technology, and that the EU has a ...
