Heading Off-Road; VW hopes Touareg takes this German automaker to places it's never been before.
``Different is good'' has been Volkswagen's unofficial mission statement for decades. From the company that built and sold millions of Beetles for most of a half century, who's to argue? But being different doesn't always mean going in an opposite direction (remember the Thing?), and VW, which has stayed out of the SUV/light truck fray for years, is jumping in with both feet.
Later this year, VW will put on sale in Europe its first SUV, the Touareg, and while VW officials publicly deny it, a pickup truck may be in the company's future.
