Z4 rumblings
BMW is confirming reports (AW, May 27) that the Z4 will replace its U.S.-built Z3. Z4 debuts at the Paris motor show in September and goes on sale stateside shortly thereafter.
As its new name suggests, BMW's 3 Series-based roadster is shifting upmarket, with increased dimensions, added performance and a greater level of standard equipment.
Z4 gets two inline six-cylinder engines in the United States, a 225-hp 3.0-liter and a 184-hp 2.5-liter. A new six-speed manual gearbox is available with the bigger powerplant, and sequential manuals will be available next spring.
