2002 JUL 24 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Clinical investigators affiliated with Anosys, Inc., have reported the first clinical trial results of dexosome therapy at the 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In this phase I study, patients with advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer received Anosys' acellular anticancer dexosomes, delivery vehicles that comprise all the known protein components necessary to activate the major immune responses.
The poster presentation provided the first public disclosure of clinical findings demonstrating that administration of a dexosome-based vaccine in patients is feasible, safe and may provide clinical benefit.
"These preliminary results in advanced-stage disease patients are promising," stated Nancy Valente, MD, vice president of medical affairs at Anosys. "We have now completed accrual in this study, and look forward to opening enrollment in a phase II study in patients with advanced non-small lung cancer."
The trial enrolled patients with unresectable Stage III and IV non-small-cell lung cancer who had previously been treated with up to three regimens. In addition, the patients' cancers were positive for the expression of tumor antigens, MAGE-3, -4 or -10. Following leukapheresis (removal of a small population of white blood cells), Anosys manufactured dexosomes, which were loaded with the MAGE-3, -4 and -10 tumor peptides, and then administered to the patients.
According to the reported findings, three of seven immunized patients achieved prolonged disease stabilization (6, 9 and 10 months, respectively), ...
